Video - Yang victorious in Judo marathon Chinese judoka Yang Xiuli won gold in the women's -78kg category but Britain's Michelle Rogers could not threaten any of the medal positions. Yang beat Cuban Yalennis Castillo by a contentious judges' decision in the final after 10 minutes of tough combat. France's Stephanie Possamai and South Korea's Jeong Gyeong Mi claimed bronze. Earlier, Rogers lost to South Korea's Jeong Gyeongmi and could not beat Germany's 2008 European champion Heide Wollert in the repechage. Yang claimed China's second judo gold medal in a marathon final which, after a tentative start, saw both fighters join the battle aggressively though they were each unable to put the other on their back to post a score.  | 606: DEBATE |
With neither able to score after the full five minutes of extra time, referees judged Yang the more attacking fighter and awarded her the title. Rogers' nemesis Jeong clinched a bronze by pinning Edinanci Silva of Brazil to the mat long enough to score ippon and win automatically. France's Stephanie Possamai threw Esther San Miguel of Spain for a high-scoring waza ari late in their bout to claim the other bronze. Despite an aggressive approach, Rogers could not progress beyond the first round as she slipped to a narrow defeat to Jeong, who managed a koka in the final minute. Because of the Korean's progression to the semi-final, Rogers was rewarded with a place in the repechage but faced a tough draw against Wollert.
