Reading face Cannock on Saturday in the Euro Hockey League in Barcelona
Reading coach Mike Williamson said his team have now turned their attention to gaining European success after clinching the England Premier League.

Reading beat nearest rivals Cannock 2-1 at the weekend to ensure the domestic title stays at Sonning Lane.

Williamson told BBC Radio Berkshire: "We had a couple of drinks in the club house bar and then said 'see you for training on Tuesday'.

"They're all aware of the big job ahead of us."

Reading face rivals Cannock on Saturday in the Euro Hockey League in Barcelona.

They do a day's work, have an hour and a half in the car and arrive at training already tired, but train hard and that's the aspect that's made the difference.

Williamson added: "We have huge respect for Cannock and we know it'll be a tough game. It's the only game that we've lost this season.

"We know they're a good side but we also know we're capable of winning that game."

Williamson feels that the European tournament is of great importance for the club.

"It's a fantastic chance for us to play some really top clubs, many of them highly professional compared to the clubs in England.

"But the English clubs, be they Reading or Cannock, are willing to put themselves up against that sort of competition."

Williamson paid tribute to the efforts of the Reading players and management, combining full-time careers with their hockey commitments.

"They've all got careers and they all travel good distances - some out of London and Bristol to play for us," he added.

But Williamson added he particularly satisfied to clinch the title on their home ground.

"It was awful weather, but the supporters were there to cheer us on," he said.

"All the points that we've dropped this season have been at home, so we've disappointed them once or twice so it was great to reward them for turning up."
