Former Great Britain and Canterbury hockey star Sean Kerly says the Great Britain squad should take its chance to win gold at the Beijing Olympics. Kerly believes having to go through the qualifying tournament in Chile will benefit the squad at the Games. He told BBC Radio Kent: "Not qualifying early has been quite good for them. They've experienced the pressure of what it's going to be like." The GB squad won all six games to qualify, beating India in the final. This year is the 20th anniversary of the gold medal-winning performance by the GB team at the Seoul Olympics. | It was a dream for all of us, and it's still talked about now Sean Kerly on winning Olympic Gold |
Kerly scored a hat-trick in the semi-final against Australia and a goal in the 3-1 win over Germany in the final. Describing the events of 1988, Kerly said: "It was like a dream for all of us. We had our moment really, and it's still talked about now. "What the squad have got to do now is go out there and win their own gold medal and get rid of us, and they can become the focus of attention for the youngsters of today."
