GB hockey men keep up Beijing bid
Glenn Kirkham
Kirkham scored a brace against Russia to keep Britain on track
Great Britain's men's hockey team kept their quest to reach the Beijing Olympics alive with a second victory at the qualifying event in Chile.

The team followed up their 11-0 drubbing of Mexico with an emphatic 8-0 win over Russia on Sunday.

Barry Middleton, Matt Daly and Glenn Kirkham all scored braces, with Mark Ralph and James Tindall also on target.

Britain must win the tournament - which features six countries - to qualify for this year's Olympics.

Manager Pete Nicholson said: "It was an incredibly hot afternoon and this was a good positive performance.

"We have Chile next and are looking forward to playing in front of a big crowd against the host nation."

Britain opened the tournament with a thumping 11-0 victory over Mexico in Santiago.

Hosts Chile, Austria, Russia, India as well as Mexico are also vying for a place at the Games.

All the teams will play each other once, after which the top two sides progress to the final.

If GB do not qualify, it would be the first time they miss out since the 1980 Olympics in Moscow.
