Louis Smith claimed bronze on the pommel horse at last year's World Championships

Louis Smith and Daniel Keatings - who both compete for the same club - have been named to compete in artistic gymnastics at the Beijing Olympics.

Smith took a pommel horse bronze at the World Championships while Keatings, also from Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire, is junior European champion.

"Fourteen years of hard work is starting to pay off," said Smith, 19.

"Doing a clean routine at the Olympics would consolidate all the time and effort I have contributed."

Scottish-born Keatings, 18, said: "It hasn't really sunk in yet, but I am very excited and I just want to get going now."

Gymnastics team leader Matthew Greenwood added: "Louis and Daniel have been fantastic and consistent performers on the world stage over the last two years and have surprised many of the world's best gymnasts.

"Their inclusion in the Olympics marks a significant stage in the development of men's artistic gymnastics in Great Britain.

"And I am fully confident that they have the ability to achieve great things in Beijing."

Huntingdon Olympic Gymnastics club has high hopes of providing more members to Team GB, with Marissa King, Kayleigh Cooke and Emma White also hoping for selection.

"The girls are in the middle of three trials culminating in the British championships at the end of June," said club head coach Paul Hall.

"From my point of view it would be a wonderful, wonderful achievement if we could actually get representation from both the men and the women in Huntingdon."

Hall believes that going to Beijing will prove to be invaluable preparation for 2012, with a lot of the club's young stars hoping to really make their mark at the London Games.

"These guys are young enough, that's the exciting thing, and it means in four years' time they'll be hopefully at their absolute best."
