The club may have to close as it cannot find a new home |
The Mont a l'Abbe Special Gymnastics Club may be forced to close if it fails to find a new home from September 2008. The school in which the gym is housed will have to move when building work begins this summer, leaving the gym without a home. The club is negotiating with the Jersey Gymnastics Club, but no solution has been found so far. The club is a centre of excellence in special gymnastics and has produced a number of Special Olympic medallists. The island's Education, Sport and Culture Department is supporting the club in their bid to find a new home. The old building at Mont a l'Abbe school is being demolished meaning that the sports hall will have to become a multi-purpose room and will not be able to house the gym club.
Coach John Grady is seen as one of the best in Europe |

He guided John Le Seeleur to Special Olympics World Games gold in 2003 and has produced a string of other British Special Olympians. At last year's World Games in Shanghai, Samantha Godel won three bronze and two silver medals and Harry Smale won two bronze medals at the same event. They both picked up numerous gold medals at the 2006 European championships.
