Jo Hutchison was among 25 British fencers taking part at the England Cup women's sabre international in Croydon

The British number two won three and lost three bouts in her pool on day one to leave her seeded 58 for the next round

A bout against Italy's Mariangela Postiglione followed and it was hit for hit as Hutchison led 8/7 at the break

Postiglione changed tactics, so Hutchison did the same, triumphing 15/10 with a lunge from the start line

A lengthy day ends with Hutchison seeded 60th as the top 16 fencers, who were exempt from the pool bouts, join the fray

Hutchison starts day two by beating Poland's world number 10 Alexandra Socha to set up a bout with Louise Bond-Williams

She takes an 8/3 lead but loses 13/15 to the British number one to finish 32nd. Bond-Williams goes out in the next round

In the final, Rebecca Ward (right) defeats US team-mate and Olympic champion Mariel Zagunis to take the gold medal
