Whitaker forced from show jumping

Portofino 63's illness is a blow for Michael Whitaker

GB's Michael Whitaker has been forced to withdraw from the team showing jumping event after his horse Portofino 63 was declared unfit to compete.

The mare had been declared sound before travelling to Hong Kong, but developed the problem in the last 48 hours.

The team veterinarian carried out an investigation but was unable to diagnose the cause of the problem.

Reserve horse Russel, ridden by Nick Skelton, has been added to the squad of four for Friday's team jumping event.
