 Laura Bechtolsheimer |
Dressage rider Laura Bechtolsheimer has strengthened her case for Olympic selection with a record performance at the Grand Prix at Olympia. She finished second in qualifying behind world number one Anky van Grunsven and with the best ever score for an English rider at Grand Prix.
The 22-year-old told BBC Radio Gloucestershire: "I'm thrilled with the way my horse handled things.
"He's more confident in the arena and that's starting to show."
She added: "To come second to the world number one isn't so bad."
Bechtolsheimer has been targeting an appearance at the London Olympics in 2012 but with her current form she may well qualify to ride in Beijing next year.
But the Gloucestershire girl is not getting over excited about the prospect of Olympic qualification.
"I'll take it as it comes," she added. "I'm so happy with him and I just want him to go home and feel how well he's done."
