GB diving boss set to stand down

Tom Daley and Blake Aldridge in action
Foley wants to give his successor time to work with London 2012 hopefuls

Steve Foley is to quit as GB diving performance director later this year after deciding he did not want to stay on until London 2012.

Australian Foley has been in the post for 10 years and said he wanted to give his successor time to work with medal hope Tom Daley and the team.

"I felt it only fair to give British Swimming as much time as possible to find a replacement," said Foley, 51.

"For various reasons I believe the time is right for me to move on."

With Foley at the helm, Great Britain won their first Olympic diving medal in 44 years - silver for Leon Taylor and Pete Waterfield in the synchronised platform in 2004.

They took a squad of 10 to Beijing but missed out on the podium, with Daley's seventh place in the 10m Platform the best result.

British Swimming chief executive David Sparkes said: "Steve has given us 10 years of hard work and commitment and has significantly raised the level of British diving during that period.

"At this year's Olympics in Beijing we had the biggest diving team ever.

"We now need to build upon Steve's success with the team and we have already put in place an international recruitment process to find his replacement."
