David Price struck gold in the super-heavyweight division

Great Britain head coach Terry Edwards lauded his team after they won four golds, three silvers and a bronze at the European Union Championships.

Frankie Gavin, David Price, Billy Joe Saunders and Thomas Stalker all struck gold to increase Olympic expectation.

The haul made the British team the most successful at the event in Poland.

"All the boys boxed very well and got some valuable competition," said Edwards. "We are delighted with the way things are going."

Gavin, a world champion at lightweight, boxed at light-welterweight in Cetniewo and earned the best boxer of the tournament award.

But Edwards said the Birmingham southpaw would have no problems boiling down to the lightweight limit in time for Beijing.

"A lot of boxers fluctuate in weight and we have a strategy for Frankie to deal with that. He will start taking off the kilos now and he will be ready for China."

Saunders won the welterweight title, Price the super-heavyweight title and Stalker, who is not going to the Olympics, triumphed at lightweight.

Price, the Great Britain captain, said the performances proved that his team will be a force to be reckoned with in Beijing.

"Four golds and three silvers is a great preparation for Beijing in what is our last tournament before we go," said the 24-year-old Liverpudlian, a 2006 Commonwealth champion.

"We put in a lot of good preparation which shows the coaches and the athletes recognised the importance of coming away as the top team.

"We really bonded as a unit over there and there's a great team spirit now, which helped us put in a great team performance.

"Now we're all super-confident and know we can compete with the top nations.

"In the last Olympics it would have been intimidating to get in the ring with a Cuban but that won't be the case this time.

"Personally I'm going there to win gold because I have to aim high. I know I can do that."
