The United States avenged their semi-final defeat to Argentina four years ago in Athens to set up a final against 2006 world champions Spain.

Luis Scola top-scored with 28 for the reigning champions, but they lost leading scorer Manu Ginobili to an ankle injury in the first quarter.

Carmelo Anthony's 21 and LeBron James' 15 helped the US ease through 101-81.

Spain edged out Lithuania 91-86, with Pau Gasol scoring a joint game-high 19, to reach their second Olympic final.

It leaves the Lithuanians facing a fifth consecutive bronze medal play-off match.

They won the first three before losing to America in Athens four years ago.

But the US 'Redeem Team' firmly put any thoughts of a re-match with Lithuania behind them as they saw off a determined challenge from Argentina.

The result was never in doubt after America jumped out to a 21-4 lead in the first quarter.

They held a 49-40 advantage at half-time and led by 16 points heading into the final period.

And America will be confident of repeating their 1984 Olympic final victory over Spain when they meet again on Sunday as they won their pool game by a massive 37 points earlier in the competition.
