Video - Clay secures decathlon gold American Bryan Clay cruised to decathlon gold after a devastating display over two days to finish with 8791 points in Beijing. The former world champion ran the final event, the 1500m, needing to avoid being beaten by a massive one minute. Belarussian Andrei Krauchanka won silver, and Cuba's Leonel Suarez squeezed through to grab bronze. Britain's Daniel Awde, 20, from London, had a better second day to finish 21st on his Olympic debut. Clay, 2004 Olympic silver medallist and 2005 world champion, beat Krauchanka by 240 points - the highest winning-margin since 1972. The American started the second day with an 88-point lead, and continued with a series of impressive displays. | 606: DEBATE | He was second in the 110m hurdles, won the discus with 53.79m, cleared 5.0m in the pole vault, threw a massive 70.97m in the javelin and sealed his gold with a steady jog in the 1500m worth 522 points. Russia's Alexander Pogorelov was fourth, while Roman Sebrle of the Czech Republic, the reigning world and Olympic champion, finished sixth. It was a mixed two days for Britain's Awde, but he showed good signs for London 2012 with an improved display on Saturday. The 20-year-old did poorly in the discus but bounced back with a personal best in the pole vault. Awde said: "It was the toughest decathlon I've ever done and it was such an experience. "It's such a vast amount to try and learn and it was one of those things that you have to get used to, coming here I think has set me up a treat."
