Haining is uncertain about whether to go to Beijing or not |
Marathon reserve Hayley Haining will not be travelling to Great Britain's Olympic training camp in Macau. Haining, 36, made the decision in conjunction with UK Athletics after Paula Radcliffe announced she would be joining up with the GB squad on Sunday. A spokesman for UK Athletics told BBC Sport: "Hayley always said that she wouldn't go to the camp if Paula did. "She will continue to train at home in Scotland and wait and see whether she is needed in Beijing." He added: "This doesn't necessarily mean that Hayley won't go to the Olympics. "But Paula's decision to go to Macau has obviously increased the likelihood of her going to Beijing." | 606: DEBATE |
Radcliffe, 34, was diagnosed with a stress fracture to her left femur in May, which seemed to make her participation in Beijing unlikely. However, she has been training at "high intensity" in the last fortnight and her decision to travel to Macau has increased expectations of her participating at the Olympics. Meanwhile, Haining has admitted she is uncertain about whether to go to Beijing or not. The Scot is in limbo as UK Athletics have given Radcliffe until the day before the Olympic marathon, on 17 August, to decide whether or not to compete.
