Chambers is unbeaten on his return to the 100 metres |
Dwain Chambers failed in his latest attempt to qualify for the 100m at the Beijing Olympics on Saturday. Chambers won the Southern Counties Championships in 10.24 seconds which was 0.03 seconds short of the official 'A' standard. The 30-year-old sprinter is banned from competing in China by the British Olympic Association (BOA) following his two-year drugs ban. But he hopes to achieve the qualifying time before launching an appeal. Chambers also narrowly missed out on the mark earlier in June, clocking 10.26 on his return in Greece on 4 June and then 10.28 in Birmingham four days later. His next race is likely to be on 5 July in Biberach, Germany, with the British Olympic trials a week later. | 606: DEBATE | The British Olympic Association then has to name its team for Beijing by July 20 so Chambers could have as little as a week in which to launch an appeal. Yet the 30-year-old argued he would have achieved the time with ease if it wasn't for strong headwinds. "The wind was swinging around and around, but not in my favour, for whatever reason that was," he said. "It shows that I am in 10.1 shape, or even 10.0, if you turn the wind around. I will get there. "Today has proved that I just have to deal with some unforeseen circumstances."
