Phillips Idowu went to the top of the world triple jump rankings after clearing 17.55m at the Venizelia meeting in Chania in Greece. Idowu's best effort was five centimetres further than the previous leader set by Cuban David Giralt. The Londoner's winning distance in his first competition of the summer represents a major boost for his Olympic title bid in Beijing. Montell Douglas won the women's 100m in 11.42 seconds.
