 Andrew Winnie believes Jersey will take four athletes to India |
Jersey's athletes bagged an impressive haul of medals at the Hampshire County Championships over the weekend. The Island team finished the championships in Portsmouth with 20 gold, 16 silver and 19 bronze medals. Two of the team gained qualification standards for the Youth Commonwealth Games in India in October. Firstly, Gemma Dawkins in the 400 metres in a time of 57.84 seconds followed by Zane Duquemin who won both the under 17s and Under 20s discus. Andrew Winnie, Jersey's athletics development officer, said: "Both Gemma and Zane have now gained the qualification standards for the Youth Commonwealths, however the team doesn't get selected until August." There is space for just four athletes on the Jersey team for the event and Winnie told BBC Jersey that he thought he would send a full contingent.
