Pavey won last year's Great Manchester Run |
Commonwealth 5000m silver medallist Jo Pavey will take part in the Great Manchester Run as she continues her preparations for the Olympic Games. The 34-year-old won last year's event and believes the 10km race on 18 May offers a perfect test ahead of the 10,000m event in Beijing in August. Pavey narrowly lost over 10km in the recent Great Ireland Run in Dublin, but is happy with her preparations so far. "The result shows that races over 10km are good preparation events," she said. She is currently training in Potchefstroom, South Africa and will come down from altitude several days before the Manchester race. Last year she narrowly beat Aniko Kalovics to the finish line and the Hungarian will return this year along with Kenya's Catherine Ndereba, who regained the World Championships marathon title from Paula Radcliffe last summer.
