Williamson will miss the Olympic Games opening ceremony |
Shropshire archer Alison Williamson is expecting tough competition for the gold medal in Beijing. Williamson, who won bronze in Athens in 2004, told BBC Radio Shropshire: "It's very nice to think of a gold, but the competition there will be very fierce. "The Chinese will be determined to put on a very good show, and the Koreans and the Italians are also very strong." Williamson has competed and trained all over the world this year but has now tapered training to peak in Beijing. Beijing will be Williamson's fifth Olympic Games and she is planning to miss the opening ceremony to ensure her preparation is exactly right for her event. "My first competition session is the next day, so I'll be tucked up in bed while everyone else is enjoying themselves," she said.
