Picture power: Keeping one eye on the crowd

George Bush

Today's picture from the Olympics is by photographer Ezra Shaw, who proves it's not always the sporting action that makes for the best picture. It's a good idea to keep one eye on the crowd, Shaw explains.

I was covering the swimming events when my photo editor telephoned me to say that President Bush was expected to attend.

"When he arrived, he almost fell down the stairs but was caught by his secret service agents. But he seemed to be enjoying himself at the event, having a good time and cheering the American team on and I think this picture captures that spirit.
