From Sport to Shakespeare - Olympic Dreams inspires School 108 production
Sarah Boyes, Teacher, Fairlands
Since our new-found partnership with School 108 in Yekaterinburg, Russia, we have kept each other's schools updated via email with news of important events, such as national days, projects, trips and day-to-day activities.
All the news is recorded by School 108 on our GLOG (an online media sharing tool) on the school website, and we do the same on their website as well.
We have embedded Olympic themes into many aspects of our school curriculum, including using resources from the World Class project to hold assemblies, and have a wonderful display up about the partnership - take a look!
A World Class display at Fairlands
Year 8 are currently undergoing an exciting project to create a product for the Olympics or for an Olympic athlete from the World Class Project, which will be judged by a local business. They have to create a logo, a slogan, and an advert to try and sell their project idea.
And later this year, we are going to have an 'Olympic Draw', via a video conference with our partner school. It should be a great event - in the draw, Olympic athletes will be designated to classes across all year groups, who will produce projects for another joint video conference on International Languages Day on 14th October.

Each class will do a display in their classroom about their chosen athlete and their athlete's country, to create global awareness of other cultures and to develop pupils as global citizens.
On International Languages Day, pupils will come dressed up in foreign national costumes. A special menu will be put on for the pupils, and flags will be held high for assemblies.
Each class will present something about their athlete and athlete's country in assembly, which will be watched by School 108 as well as the local press. We just have to get the Russian school to work out how to use SKYPE - fingers crossed!
THE SPECIAL SCHOOL OF THE OLYMPIC RESERVE, RUSSIA, IS TWINNING WITH REDRUTH SCHOOL: A TECHNOLOGY COLLEGE, CORNWALL
Update from the Olympic Reserve School
Our partnership is progressing well!
To get the most out of our Olympic Dreams twinning, we've created a special partnership programme in the lead up to 2012.
The students have already created some presentations - under the theme 'learning about each other" - which we have swapped with similar presentations from Redruth School - you can see one of their presentations by clicking the link below.
The students have also been keeping video diaries, with the aim of creating three 10-minute videos about sport, our school, and our town.
They'll be compiling profiles and stories of several athletes from both the twinned schools, and doing the same for the professionals - Ivan Ukhov, of course, but also Jenna Hawkey, a ex-Redruth pupil who is now a member of the GB canoeing squad.
In September 2011 our partner school are coming to us, and we look forward to it - it'll be really great!
