The school are proud of their standing as one of the top state schools in the country. Many pupils do well academically and also excel in art, music and sport. Merlyn is one of their star pupils and Jan Mohr's principal, Mr Clement Kloppers, describes the sprinter as a "dedicated athlete who manages to strike a balance between training and schoolwork." As one of Namibia's 2012 athletics hopefuls, he explains that Merlyn is a role model for current pupils not just because of her achievements on the track but also because of her conduct, behaviour and dedication. Merlyn came to Jan Mohr after completing her primary studies at Auas Primary in Windhoek. She is becoming well-known across the rest of Namibia and Mr Kloppers sees her as an inspiration to the country as a whole. In meeting the demands of studying, training and part time work, Merlyn has a busy schedule which means that she gets up at 0500 on school days, goes to lessons from 0745 until lunchtime followed by four hours of athletics training until the early evening. US sports scholarship on the horizon After completing her high school studies, Merlyn would like to go on to a sports scholarship at university in the United States where she would have access to top-class training facilities. The school are proud to have Merlyn at their school and will be supporting her on the journey to 2012.  Jan Mohr's flexibility allows Merlyn to combine training and lessons
World Olympic Dreams Merlyn is one of the athletes being tracked as London 2012 approaches and they strive to make their Olympic dreams a reality.
