World Class 2012 in partnership with the British Council bring you the stories of the schools where the dreams begin.
Fencing sensation Olga Kharlan won Olympic gold at Beijing 2008 as part of the the Ukrainian sabre team, scoring over half of the team's points in the final. She has been named Ukrainian athlete of the year for the last two years and also won gold at the 2009 European Fencing Championships. Olga went to school in the city of Mykolaiv in southern Ukraine.
Olga's schools School No 4 (formerly School No 55) The school's 500 students aged 9 to 17 have a wide range of academic, sporting and musical talents and regularly compete in national competitions. School No 4 are proud that their pupils play an active role in the local community in Mykolaiv in addition to working hard in class. Pupils and teachers are following Olga's progress and look forward to staging their own volleyball, football, basketball and athletics competitions in the run up to 2012. Higher College of Physical Culture Olga transferred to the Higher College of Physical Culture in Mykolaiv in 2002 and graduated in 2007. We're trying to get in touch with the school and will bring you more information when it is available.
World Olympic Dreams Olga is one of the athletes being tracked as London 2012 approaches and they strive to make their Olympic dreams a reality.
