The students strive for academic success and work hard in class. Many of them pass the Secondary Entrance Exam (SEA) aged 12 and move on to academically selective high schools. The school fosters an atmosphere of inclusivity and Maraval's 403 pupils and 17 teachers would give visitors to the school a warm welcome and exchange their cultures and knowledge. Jehue at Maraval RC Primary School The hurdler excelled in sport from an early age and won most of the events in a school sports day for his house, Marigold. He was nervous on his first day at school in 1996 and remembers lining up in the hot sun. Teachers at the school remember Jehue as being athletic but also very hard working, showing a particular talent in maths. Ms Ford Felician, a PE teacher, had a big influence on Jehue's early sporting career. Jehue has fond memories of his time at the school and says that the school is always striving for excellence and the pupils work hard to be the best they can be. The students sometimes needed a bit of encouragement and he remembers "our class teacher screaming at us to finish our work on time." However, one event at Maraval has left Jehue scarred for life: "when I was running away from a girl, I fell and scraped right under my eye giving me a scar for life lol." Located in a hilly suburb of Trinidad and Tobago's capital, Port of Spain, many of the pupils help their families out on the surrounding plantations before and after school by watering and taking care of crops including tomatoes, pimentos, cassava and yam. The students manage to fit their homework around their farming commitments and usually get it in on time. Sports stars The school balances the pupils' hard work in class with sports including football, cricket, netball, swimming, golf and athletics. Girls' football and cricket teams have recently been set up and the school regularly competes with other local schools. As well as Jehue, its track superstar, Maraval has also produced national cricketers.  Students celebrate sporting victory

The school is looking forward to London 2012 and will be supporting all athletes representing Trinidad and Tobago and other Caribbean countries. Pupils will be researching the history and inspirational stories of athletes in class. Athletes give a great deal back to the local area and regularly visit the school. Jehue is in regular contact with the school and recently presented awards including 'Sportswoman of the Year' at Maraval's graduation ceremony.
World Olympic Dreams Jehue is one of the athletes being tracked as London 2012 approaches and they strive to make their Olympic dreams a reality.
