GB men's curlers beat USA Great Britain bounced back from defeat by Canada with a vital victory against the United States in the men's curling. Having lost to the hosts, GB knew they needed to win each of their remaining three matches and started things off with a 4-2 victory over the US. It was their fourth win from seven games and saw them keep alive their hopes of reaching the semi-finals. GB's men have remaining group matches against Germany (0300 GMT) and Norway (2200 GMT) on Tuesday. The US led 1-0 until the fifth end where GB took two points to hold a lead they never relinquished. Leading 3-2 going into the final end, skip David Murdoch guided his side home to seal victory against their opponents. After a tough start to the reigning world champions' Olympic campaign veteran third Ewan Macdonald believes the increased pressure of the next two matches will help bring out the best in them. "Once we've got our backs against the wall we seem to come up with the goods," said triple world champion Macdonald. "We're back in that position again so we've got to dig deep and come up with the goods." Murdoch superbly led his side to victory on Sunday |
Murdoch added: "It's another win on the board and now we just have to execute the same game-plan against Germany. I think the way the team is playing at the moment it should be good. "We were close to top-gear last night against Canada but when a team plays defensively against you it's hard to play that type of game. We're playing well and we've certainly got the confidence we need." Meanwhile, GB's women's curlers lost 10-6 to Switzerland in Vancouver leaving their hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals hanging by a thread. It was their fourth loss of the Games, meaning they will now have to win their remaining two matches and hope other results go in their favour.
