Magic Muirhead beats German curlers Britain's women curlers lost 11-4 to Japan after earlier defeating European champions Germany in the group stages. Skip Eve Muirhead provided a perfect final stone in the ninth end to score three and Germany conceded at 4-7 down with two stones remaining in the 10th. However, in their evening game, Britain found Japan in fine form and conceded after giving up five shots in end nine. The result means Britain, who have four matches to play have won three and lost two of their opening five. The top four of the 10 teams in the group stage go through to the semi-finals. A resigned Eve Muirhead said, "That us on three-and-two now, but we're still not out of it, definitely not. "The Japanese played very well out there and we give them full credit for their victory. "We just have to take the positives out of that game and move on. We have USA in the afternoon and we will be ready." Japan picked up three shots in the fourth end following a rare Muirhead mistake to move 4-1 ahead. But Britain's 19-year-old skip atoned for her mistake in the next end to pull two shots back. At 4-6 down in the penultimate end, Muirhead played two superbly weighted draws to give her team hope of stealing at least one, but Japan skip Moe Meguro took out both British stones for a match-winning five. The performance against Japan was down on the morning win over Germany. With Kelly Wood back in action after being taken ill in Thursday's win over Russia, GB conceded an early lead but scored in each of the following three ends. Great Britain's men, who have won two and lost two so far and need to win their remaining five games to be sure of a place in the semi-finals, had a rest day on Friday.
