Ferry and Neuner claim biathlon golds

German Magdalena Neuner took revenge over Anastazia Kuzmina by overtaking the Slovakian for victory in the women's 10km biathlon pursuit.

Neuner started two seconds behind leader Kuzmina, based on the results of Saturday's sprint event.

But she finished 12.3 sec ahead, despite missing shots in the last two rounds and gaining a penalty distance.

Marie Laure Brunet shot clean, and finished 16 sec later to take bronze, France's third biathlon medal.

Her compatriot Marie Dorin won bronze in Saturday's sprint and Vincent Jay took gold in Sunday's men's sprint.

World Cup leader Helena Jonsson of Sweden, who was a disappointing 12th after the sprint, came home in 14th.

Six-time world champion Neuner, 23, secured her first Olympic gold by taking control with a flawless display in the first two rounds of prone shooting.

"I was just so damn nervous for that final shot as I thought, This is the shot the title hangs on," said Neuner

"Then of course I fired wide and I was shaking at that point [but] I told myself, 'Just hang in there and stay on your skis'."

"But I felt good beforehand and I resolved to concentrate hard on the shooting as I knew that in terms of skiing nobody could get the better of me."

Olofsson-Zidek, who won gold in the mass-start event in the 2006 Turin Games, crossed the line in sixth place but was subsequently moved up to fourth in the standings.

"The race officials said they'd made a mistake and apologized," said team spokesman Bjoern Folin.

"There was no reason to take it any further, we have nothing else to gain from it. And Anna Carin said she didn't think it affected her result."
