Women's Olympic combined postponed due to poor weather

Lindsey Vonn is a contender for multiple medals in Whistler

The women's Olympic super-combined skiing event will be rescheduled from Sunday after poor weather in Whistler this week has hampered training.

The opening event of the women's programme, featuring a downhill and a slalom, can only occur if a downhill training run has been completed.

"There will be no training on Saturday so the race will be rescheduled," said women's race director Atle Skaardal.

The men's downhill, the Games' premier event, has also been postponed.

The delay of the women's event will give American Lindsey Vonn, strong favourite to win multiple medals, an extra day to recover from the shin injury which put her participation in the Games in doubt.

Britain's Chemmy Alcott will also race in the event, aiming for a top 10 result.
