Swimmer Steve Parry and heptathlete Kelly Sotherton won Olympic bronze medals in Athens in 2004 but might they have been better suited to other sports? BBC 5 live's London Calling programme asked UK Sports talent identification programme to assess them
Talent assessor Nik Diaper measures their heights, with Steve 192cm (6ft 4in), just 2cm over the minimum requirement for the latest UK Sport programme Tall and Talented, aimed at the 2016 Olympics. Kelly is 172cm, under the womens requirement of 180cm
Arm span is a key indicator of sporting ability and Steve, who finished behind Michael Phelps in the 200m butterfly final in Athens, has a massive wingspan of 190cm (6ft 2in), leading Nik to suggest he could have starred in rowing
Kelly, whose event includes javelin and shot put, has an arm span of 172cm (5ft 7in)
A pressure pad is used to assess the height standing jump but Steve is only able to jump 26.4cm (10in) because of low ceiling tiles in the radio studio. Kelly is unable to jump because of a foot injury but has jumped 50cm in the past
While Steve could row, Kellys explosiveness make her a success at bob skeleton, but she would prefer beach volleyball. This is just the first stage in selection, with sport-specific assessments to follow. Find out more at www.uksport.gov.uk/talent/
