Busy schedule ahead for Ainslie

Ainslie added the BBC South Sports Personality Award to his list of honours

Lymington sailor Ben Ainslie, the new BBC South Sports Personality of the Year, is facing a tough schedule in the build up to London 2012.

"There's a regatta in New Zealand in February, then I'm hoping to be involved in the Americas Cup in 2010 or 2011," he told BBC Radio Solent.

'Team Origin' is Britain's Americas Cup entry but a legal dispute is currently delaying the next series of races.

Ainslie is in the running for the main Sports Personality Award on Sunday.

As well as Ainslie's award, other winners at the BBC South's Awards night on Sunday at the De Vere Hotel in Southampton were:

Male Team: Portsmouth Football Club (FA Cup winners)

Female Team: Yngling Sailing team of Sarah Webb, Sarah Ayton and Pippa Wilson (Gold medal winners in Beijing)

Disabled Sportsperson: Darren Kenny (Winner of four cycling golds and a silver in Beijing)

Young Sportsperson: Stephanie Twell (Won world junior 1500m title and was named European Athletics rising star of 2008)

Yachtsperson: Ben Ainslie (Second award for Britain's most successful Olympic sailor)

Coach: Jurgen Grobler (Team GB head rowing coach)

Cricketer: Kevin Pietersen (Hampshire's current England captain. Won the one-day series against South Africa)

Footballer: David James (Portsmouth's England goalkeeper. Regained his number one international spot)

Non League Team: Havant and Waterlooville FC (Won through to the fourth round of the FA Cup, losing to Liverpool)

Sportsman: Tony McCoy (Champion jockey every year since 1995)

Sportswoman: Helene Raynsford (First person in Paralympics history to win rowing gold)

Unsung Hero: Ben Geyser (Boxing coach, set up three clubs in the Dorset area) Ben now goes on the National BBC Sports Personality show on Sunday

Special Award: Aldershot Town FC (Returned to the Football League for the first time since 1992)

Alan Ball Award: Peter Norfolk (Paralympic wheelchair tennis gold medallist in Beijing)
