Tyrone's Conor Gormley in action against James Lavery of Armagh |
Manager Mickey Harte admitted his side almost paid for being complacent after stacking up a huge lead against Armagh. The All-Ireland champions were eight points up early in the second but only won by three in the big Clones clash. "The second goal should have been enough for us to drive on and win more comfortably than we did," said Harte. "Players do not intentionally take their foot off the gas but sometimes complacency can creep in. We were slack and Armagh made us pay for that." But, overall, Harte was pleased to get through to a semi-final date with Derry. "This time last year we were out of the Ulster Championship, so we are happy," added the Tyrone boss. "Armagh looked the best team for the first 20 minutes. We were creating chances but we were not good at taking them. "When we had the big lead, we overplayed the ball at times and made unforced errors. The result was in the balance right to the end." Armagh forward Steven McDonnell, chalking up his 50th match at Championship level, said poor finishing had led to their downfall. "We put in a solid enough performance but did not get the scores we needed," he said. "It looked like we had got ourselves back into it and we were dominating in the middle. "But Tyrone drove up the field and got crucial scores at crucial times. "It leaves us having to go into the qualifiers and that is all about the luck of the draw."
