Ballygalget claim Down SHC title

Martin Coulter scored an early goal for Ballygalget

Ballygalget claimed the Down SHC title by beating Portaferry 2-13 to 0-9.

Playing with the breeze in the first half, Ballygalget led 1-6 to 0-4 at the break with the help of a goal by Martin Coulter in the first minute.

Shane Bailie scored the second goal 10 minutes into the second half after accepting a pass from Barry Coulter.

This gave Ballygalget a 2-8 to 0-5 lead and they went on to cruise to victory, with right half-back Seamus Roddy being named as man-of-the-match.

Roddy's contribution included a point from long range while Martin Coulter ended with a tally of 1-4.

Portaferry were overly reliant on the free-taking of Paul Braniff to keep them in the game.
