Derry board 'backs' boss Crozier

Paddy Crozier
Crozier's future has been the subject of much speculation

The Derry County Board has insisted that senior football boss Paddy Crozier has its "full backing" despite continuing speculation over his future.

A statement from county PRO Sean Gunning hit out at "misleading comments" that have appeared in the media in recent weeks.

Crozier's future has been in doubt since Derry's defeat by Monaghan.

The statement also disputed claims that the county's players were "not provided with first-class medical provision".

Even though Crozier remains Derry boss, Damien Cassidy is already being linked with the position.

However, Gunning insisted that the Derry board has "not considered, discussed, hinted or made any approaches as regards next year's management teams".

"It remains the policy of Derry County Board not to review team management for next season while some of our teams remain in the championship, and we are eagerly anticipating an All-Ireland U21 hurling semi-final against Tipperary.

606: DEBATE

"Paddy Crozier continues to have the full backing and support of Derry County Board, players and genuine Derry supporters.

"We resent comments made in publications which condemn his management in what has become a volatile environment under constant scrutiny."

The Derry official described suggestions of insufficient medical back-up as "an insult to the professional medical provision currently in place".

"The board recognises the sacrifices, commitment and dedication of all players who wear the red and white and in response to managers' requests, have enabled the best chartered physiotherapists to be obtained from province wide, in addition to diet and conditioning, doctors on call and 24-hour MRI scans provision."

Referring to Derry's National League title earlier this year, the statement added:"We are proud Paddy Crozier has delivered an All-Ireland Senior football title to his native county.

"In a climate where it is easier to sit back and criticise, rather than devote thankless hours and energe at the cutting edge of our games, we deplore any condemnations publicised of this management team and players."
