Thomas Freeman netted eight points for Monaghan |
Thomas Freeman bagged eight points as Monaghan were too strong for Roscommon in the Division One match at Clones. Paul Finlay landed four, Conor McManus three with others from Gary McQuaid, Rory Ronaghan and Paul McGuigan.
Conor Devenney scored an early goal to have Roscommon level but sub Daniel McNally netted late on for Monaghan.
Roscommon's cause was not helped by the dismissal of Seamus O'Neill early in the second half when he got a second yellow for a foot trip on McManus.
"It was good to get so many points on the board," said Monaghan manager Seamus McEnaney.
"But at times it was disappointing because we gave Roscommon two or three goal chances and they took one of them.
"This is a great division to be in for Monaghan as we are playing some great counties like Armagh and Dublin, and we have local derbies against Cavan and Meath.
"These will be brilliant games."
