Malachy Mackin is expected to be banned after his red card |
Armagh forward Malachy Mackin is likely to be hit with a four-week ban after his straight red card in Sunday's 1-9 to 0-11 Allianz NFL win over Louth. The St Patrick's, Cullyhana man was dismissed along with Louth's Colin Goss as tempers flared after Steven McDonnell scored a late winning goal.
It is believed referee John Bannon told Mackin he was red-carded for striking.
Meanwhile, Croke Park is set to act after a clash between players when both teams warmed up at the same end.
Bannon and other match officials were forced to intervene to calm the situation at Crossmaglen, which was similar to the All-Ireland semi-final stand-off involving Dublin and Mayo last year.
Both managers said they were not informed where their teams were to warm up although local officals claim that both sides had been told prior to the game.
The GAA is expected to issue a reminder about pre-match protocol in the wake of the incident.
Armagh boss Joe Kernan is confident that Kieran McGeeney and Paul McGrane will be fit for the NFL Division 1B game against Galway on 25 February.
McGrane came on as a late substitute in the Louth match while McGeeney is set to return after a calf injury.
Gareth Swift, Charlie Vernon and Ciaran McKeever picked up knocks in the weekend victory but all should be available to face Galway.
Kernan also expects Ronan Clarke and Brian Mallon to feature at some stage this year after both suffered serious knee injuries.
