Monaghan claimed another Allianz NFL win although they had a nervy finish in the Division 2A game against Longford.

A Damien Freeman goal helped the Farney men lead 1-7 to 0-2 and while Padraig Berry netted for Longford, Monaghan still led 1-10 to 1-4 at the interval.

Two Tomas Freeman points helped the home side extend their lead to 1-14 to 1-5 at Clones.

David Barden's goal and Kevin Smith's scrambled goal cut Monaghan's lead to two points but the home side held on.

Smith's goal came after Monaghan goalkeeper Shane Duffy failed to hold Paul Barden's free.

Damien Freeman top scored with 1-2 for Monaghan while Paul Finlay and Damien Freeman both scored 0-4.
