Johnny McBride steps down from inter-county football |
Derry football captain Johnny McBride and his Loup club-mate Paul McFlynn have both opted to retire from inter-county football. McBride, 29, says that family commitments played a part in his decision to quit the Derry set-up.
McBride made his Derry senior debut in 1995 and later led the county's U21 team to All-Ireland success in 1997.
He won an Ulster Championship medal in 1998 and claimed National League medals in 1996 and 2000.
Half-back McFlynn has also been an influential player for Derry for more than a decade but his career has been affected by a number of injuries in recent seasons.
