Fevola makes racial abuse claims
Brendan Fevola
Brendan Fevola has made claims of racial abuse in Ireland
The Australian player sent home from the Rules series claims that days of abuse and racist taunts led to him being involved in a nightclub incident.

Brendan Fevola allegedly assaulted a barman in Galway and the Carlton star was later interviewed by Gardai in connection with the incident.

"They (the Irish) were sledging the Aboriginal boys. Pretty much wherever we go they've been potting us."

Fevola added: "It was just getting beyond a joke."

There are four Aboriginal players touring with the Australian team - Chance Bateman, Aaron Davey, Graham Johncock and Danny Pearce.

"The Irish have just had us over here," continued the AFL player.

It is understood the incident was captured on CCTV.

AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou said the player had offered "a full unconditional apology for his actions".

A statement on the AFL's official website added that Galway police had not decided whether they would take any further action in relation to the incident.

Mr Demetriou said he had immediately launched a full AFL investigation after being notified about the incident and had convened a meeting of the team's disciplinary committee.

The disciplinary commitee determined that Fevola was guilty of unacceptable behaviour.

Fevola was left out of the squad for Saturday's opening Test in Galway and the Carlton star was said to be very disappointed at missing the game as he has yet to represent his country in the compromise code.
