Donegal shock Tyrone
Brendan Devenney tries to break clear from Ryan McMenamin
Donegal produced an amazing display to comprehensively defeat All-Ireland champions Tyrone 1-11 to 0-9 in Sunday's Ulster semi-final at Clones.

Colm McFadden was the star of the 14-man success with his 1-7 tally decisive in Donegal's success.

Brian McEniff's side won despite Niall McCready's sending off late in the first half.

Tyrone led 0-4 to 0-3 at the break but inspired by sub Stephen McDermott and McFadden, Donegal dominated thereafter.

The All-Ireland champions had the majority of the possession in the first half but some errant shooting meant Donegal were still very much in touch at the interval.

Tyrone had to make a late change to their line-up with Shane Sweeney having to replace Gavin Devlin who was ruled out by a shoulder injury.

In the wet conditions, the opening quarter was scrappy with Owen Mulligan's 11th minute point the only score.

Both sets of forwards were struggling to retain their footing with the Tyrone attack, in particular, guilty of notching five bad wides.

Tyrone were two points ahead when McFadden finally opened Donegal's account from a free in the 23rd minute.

The struggle for scores continued and Tyrone led 0-3 to 0-2 after 31 minutes.

McCready was then fortunate to avoid a straight red card a minute before half-time after a dreadful challenge on Mulligan.

However, within a minute McCready had been dismissed after he had foolishly got involved with Mulligan once more.

Mulligan pointed the resultant free but perhaps crucially, Brian Roper swung over a great long-range effort to cut Tyrone's lead to a point at the break.

The key period of the match was the 15 minutes after half-time when a McFadden-inspired Donegal hit six points without reply.

Four of the points came from McFadden with Christy Toye and Barry Monaghan also claiming scores.

At that stage of the game, the rampant Donegal men looked at though they had the numerical advantage with Tyrone unable to summon up any resistance.

Donegal were totally dominating the midfield exchanges with McDermott, who had been introduced for Brian McLaughlin before half-time, making a decisive contribution.

Joe McMahon lifted the siege in the 52nd minute to cut Donegal's lead to four points but within a minute the game was as good as over when McFadden blasted to the net after the Tyrone defence had been ripped apart.

Tyrone tried manfully to summon up a comeback and they did get to within four points of McEniff's men with five minutes left.

However, a minute later McFadden notched a steadying point for Donegal to end any prospect of Tyrone holding on to their Ulster title.
