Paul Braniff had to limp off late in the New York match |
Down booked their place in the Ulster Hurling final by beating New York by 1-19 to 1-09 in the Bronx. A Gareth Johnson goal early in the second half effectively assured John Crossey's team of progressing to the 6 June decider against Antrim.
The only bad news for the Ulster side was a leg injury to Paul Braniff which forced the UUJ student to limp out of the match.
New York hit 10 wides in the first half and trailed by seven at the break.
However, the hosts did get the only goal of the first period through Bonny Kennedy.
And Down keeper Graham Clarke had to make a number of good saves to keep New York at bay.
New York closed the gap a little with points from Vincent Norton and Dave Sims but then 'Magic' Johnson was allowed space to fire home Down's goal six minutes into the second half.
