Suggestions that Derry might trouble the All-Ireland champions proved wide of the mark as Mickey Harte's side outclassed the dismal Oak Leafers. If anything, the 11-point margin flattered Mickey Moran's side with Padraig Kelly's late consolation goal scarcely deserved by Derry.
Tyrone led 0-7 to 0-2 at the break with Derry already minus the sent off Padraig O'Kane.
Kevin Hughes' goal early in the second half ended the game as a contest.
So poor was the Derry performance that it took them 31 minutes to register their first score through a Paddy Bradley free.
By that stage, Tyrone had rattled up six points with five different players getting on the scoresheet.
Throughout the first half, Derry had plenty of possession but their forwards lamentably lacked the penetration and incisive running of the Tyrone men.
Derry did hit eight wides in the first half but most of those efforts were hopeful potshots from distance.

The lead was 0-6 to 0-0 when Bradley opened Derry's account in the 31st minute and there was then a brief glimmer of hope for Mickey Moran's side when Francis McEldowney hit a fine score to leave four between the sides.
However, Derry suffered a hammer blow in first half injury-time when half-back Padraig O'Kane was sent off for a second bookable offence - in what was a repeat of his dismissal against Tyrone in last year's Ulster replay.
Five points ahead at the break, the game was as good as over three minutes into the second half when impressive full-forward Kevin Hughes hammered a goal from close range after Mark Harte had chased a seemingly lost cause and delivered a gorgeous pass.
The match took on a predictable shape thereafter with the Tyrone men finding increasing gaps in the Derry defence.
With 10 minutes remaining, spectators were already streaming out of Clones.
Padraig Kelly's 67th minute goal was scarcely a consolation for the outclassed Derry side.
Of the Derry team, only Sean Marty Lockhart and Paddy Bradley seemed capable of matching their men.
