Moran's side have come a long way from their defeat by Tyrone |
An emotional Mickey Moran lauded his players after their battling All-Ireland Quarter-Final win over Westmeath on Saturday. Moran spoke of the soul-searching that had taken place in the camp after their hammering by Tyrone in May.
"They have been magnificent. They have worked so hard and I am so proud of them of the way they came back in the second half," said the Derry boss.
Once again, Moran's late substitutions proved crucial to this Derry win.
"Substitutions have been a feature of our games.
"Dominic McIlvar came out of nowhere to score a goal against Wexford and Gavin Donaghy came on and scored a vital point against Limerick and Eamon (Burke) came on today.
"We have faith in those boys. We train hard and for so many fellows who were playing here for the first time and it was a bit nervy at times, I thought they showed some heart."
Moran was also keen to emphasise that there is quality in this Oak Leaf side, in addition to the players' battling qualities.
"They showed today there is no lack of football in them.
"I'm delighted for them and I'm delighted to see Derry shirts in the stand happy."
Goalscorer Paddy Bradley spoke of a "great victory" for the side.
"We have threatened to put a good run together for years," said Bradley.
