Derry boss Mickey Moran full of praise for Eoin Bradley |
Derry's exciting young corner forward Eoin Bradley sustained a compound fracture of the left leg in the 1-18 to 0-06 victory over UUJ on Sunday. Bradley had his leg shattered after a tackle by the students' defender Finnian Moriarty.
Moriarty was sent-off for his challenge during a fiery McKenna Cup encounter at Ballinascreen.
Bradley was replaced by his brother Paddy, who was shown a red card in the second half.
Bradley was involved in a scuffle with UUJ's Peter Donnelly with both players sent for an early bath.
Geoffrey McGonigle scored Derry's goal, but Bradley's injury overshadowed the victory.
Derry boss Mickey Moran said that the loss of Bradley for at least a year was a big blow.
''I am absolutely devastated for him,'' said Moran. ''He had been the star of Derry football all summer.
''He has come in this season, and has been a treat to work with. He always gives 100 per cent and was doing very well.
''When he got the injury he was in total agony, and I really feel for him.''
In the other Section A tie, Tyrone kept their unbeaten record with a 2-13 to 1-02 win over Antrim.
In Section C, two goals from Stephen Kernan were not enough to save Armagh from a 0-13 to 2-5 defeat against Down.
Down were always in charge and were well ahead before a depleted Orchard side came back with a late surge.
Kernan's first goal was from a 24th minute penalty and it was 25 minutes into the second half before Ryan Henderson scored his side's next point.
Also in In Section C, the students of St Mary's handed out a shock 1-13 to 0-13 defeat to Monaghan.
In Section B, Cavan lost 1-07 to 0-14 to Donegal and Fermanagh failed to hold off a vibrant Queen's side to go down 1-11 to 1-10.
