Barry Murphy blasts Cork
Croke Park has a current capacity of 80,000
Croke Park is one of Europe's most impressive stadiums
Cork hurling great Jimmy Barry Murphy has criticised his county's decision not to back the opening of Croke Park to other sports.

The All-Ireland-winning manager said that delegates at last Sunday's Cork convention had not reflected popular opinion within the county.

Several Cork club delegates also directed attacks at GAA president Sean Kelly over the issue.

The Kerryman has said that he is in favour of the deletion of Rule 42.

Barry Murphy said that, whether the President was right or wrong in his opinion, he should not be criticised for giving leadership.

The five-times All Star winner also said: "If I was given a choice of seeing Michael Jackson or Roy Keane, Denis Irwin or Ronan O'Gara playing in Croke Park - I know who I would choose".

Longford has become the latest county to back moves to allow the GAA's Central Council to open Croke Park.

A Legan Sarsfields motion was narrowly passed, 34 votes to 32.

Earlier this week, Cavan became the first Ulster county to back calls for the historic change.
