Canavan will be fit
Peter Canavan left the field after only 15 minutes
Canavan injured the same ankle that troubled him in 1996

Tyrone captain Peter Canavan has been told that he will be fit to line out in the All-Ireland Football Final against either Armagh or Donegal on 28 September.

The Errigal Ciaran star has been told by a specialist in Dublin to wear a cast for the next week after suffering minor ankle ligament damage in Sunday's 0-13 to 0-6 semi-final win over Kerry.

But the Dublin medic is confident that Canavan's injury will be healed well before the decider.

Team manager Mickey Harte was relieved to hear the good news from Dublin.

"We hope that with rest he'll be OK for the final," said the Tyrone boss.

Canavan was forced to leave the field after less than 15 minutes of Sunday's match.

He was on crutches after the match and confirmed that he had damaged the same ankle which affected him after the 1996 All-Ireland Semi-Final defeat by Meath.

However the Errigal Ciaran star has almost five weeks to get himself fit for the all-Ulster decider against either Armagh or Donegal.

Tyrone's attack proved that they can be effective minus Canavan on Sunday but not having the captain in the team would still represent a major blow for Harte.

Meanwhile, Kerry boss Paidi O Se has said that he won't be making any quick decisions on his future.

It's the first time I've played against a team using these kind of tactics

There is already widespread speculation that O Se will quit after this latest failure at Croke Park.

It was revealed after the game that an apparent Kerry supporter had attempted to strike the manager in the closing stages of Sunday's defeat although O Se played down the incident afterwards.

"I've been involved in football for a long time, from 1973, and I think I owe it to myself and I owe it to my family not to be making such a decision today or tomorrow or the next day," said O Se.

The Kerry boss hinted that he had been outfoxed by the Tyrone team's tactics although he refused to elaborate.

"It's the first time I've played against a team using these kind of tactics but sure it's within the rules.

"Whether it's cynical or not, they're in the All-Ireland final and that's what really matters to them

"Certainly it worked against us, but I'll say it for the third time, if only we'd got a goal.

"The better team won on the day, no doubt about that, the hungrier team won".
