Sean Ward's midfield efforts weren't enough for Burren on Friday

Liatriom edged out Warrenpoint by 0-11 to 0-9 in Tuesday's concluding Harp Lager Down Football Championship first round game.

Castlewellan defeated An Riocht by 0-18 to 0-10 in Monday's Harp Lager Down Championship clash at Newcastle.

Tuesday's win earns Liatroim a last eight tussle with Castlewellan.

In the other quarter-final games, Annaclone will play Rostrevor, holders Mayobridge will take on Kilcoo while Newry Sharmocks will face Bryansford.

Bryansford emphasised their Down Championship credentials by hammering Downpatrick on Saturday evening.

Inspired by 2-2 from Shane King and 1-7 from Colm Kearney, 'Ford crushed Downpatrick 3-22 to 1-4 at Castlewellan.

In Saturday's second game, Rostrevor defeated Loughinisland 1-10 to 0-10.

In Sunday's Down Championship games at Newry, Annaclone edged out Longstone 2-7 to 0-11 while holders Mayobridge, helped by two Benny Coulter goals, hammered Saval 4-14 to 2-5.

Friday evening saw a second shock in the Down series with Kilcoo accounting for Burren on a 2-5 to 0-10 scoreline.

Despite sneaking home by only a point, the youthful Kilcoo side were worthy winners.

Mark Brannigan and Gary McEvoy notched the Kilcoo goals.

The two goals came in a three minute period in the first half.

McEvoy's sixth minute strike cancelled out a three-point advantage for Burren.

Brannigan's goal helped Kilcoo to a 2-2 to 0-6 interval lead.

A couple of points from James McCartan helped Burren level in the second half but two Brannigan points put Kilcoo ahead again.

Late on Kilcoo goalkeeper James Kane made a brilliant match-winning save which denied PJ McAlinden.

DJ Kane's introduction as a second half substitute helped inspire Newry Shamrocks to a surprise 0-12 to 0-9 win over Clonduff in the Down Football Championship on Thursday night.

Kane was aided by a superb display from Collie Burns who was switched to midfield after half-time.

Brendan Loughran scored three crucial points for Shamrocks.

Minor Jason Browne notched three points for Clonduff but Shamrock held on for a fully deserved win.

In Saturday's Antrim Hurling Championship game, Loughgiel defeated Rossa by 7-8 to 3-18 in a thrilling match.
