Croke capacity in doubt
Oisin McConville of Armagh in action during the 2002 All-Ireland semi-final against Dublin
Oisin McConville will renew rivalry with Dublin at Croke Park

The Gaelic Games Association has warned the capacity of Croke Park could be reduced to 70,000 for Saturday's two All-Ireland qualifying games.

'Croker' is hosting the mouthwatering clash between All-Ireland holders Armagh and Dublin, as well as the Donegal v Tipperary match on 5 July.

But clearing up after the Special Olympics closing ceremony has been delayed and the knock-on effect could be a reduced capacity at GAA headquarters.

The terraced part of the ground, known as Hill 16, would be closed if the necessary work was not carried out in time.

Armagh's game with Dublin is a huge draw, so the GAA will do everything in their power to have all tickets available.

They are holding 6,000 in reserve until Friday when they hope to have the all clear.

"GAA officials hope the terrace will be available to them by the end of the week," said a statement from Croke Park.

"They are acutely conscious of the public expectation of the availability of the Hill but are powerless in the circumstances.

"Even in the event of Hill 16 being unavailable, the stadium would still have a capacity in the region of 70,000."

Armagh manager Joe Kernan does not have any injury worries for Saturday's clash with the Dubs and is expected to name his team on Tuesday night.

Enda McNulty is expected to start for the All-Ireland Champions as he has recovered from a shoulder injury.

"There are only five or six counties who can realistically win the All-Ireland," said Kernan.

"I would like to think we are one, and Dublin would be another.

"If we can win this it will kick-start our season."

Dublin have injury concerns over midfielder Darren Homan (shoulder) and Ray Cosgrove (calf).

Meath minus Regan

Meanwhile, Brendan Devenney is expected to line out for Donegal in Saturday's Croke Park curtain-raiser against Tipperary.

The St Eunan's player has recovered from the knee injury he sustained in the Ulster Championship defeat by Fermanagh.

However, corner-back Noel McGinley is expected to miss the game because of a hamstring injury.

Fermanagh, meanwhile, may recall Ciaran Donnelly for Sunday's qualifier against Meath at Clones.

Donnelly has recovered from an ankle injury.

Meath will be without talented forward Daithi Regan who sustained a broken wrist in the win over Monaghan.
