Tyrone finish on top
Action from the Tyrone v Cork NFL game at Dungannon
Tyrone's Enda McGinley is challenged by Sean O'Brien of Cork
Tyrone 1-17 Cork 0-14

Reigning National League champions Tyrone guaranteed their place in this season's knock-out stages with a fine six-points success over Cork.

At half-time Tyrone led by nine points to six with Ger Cavlan kicking three fine scores.

On the restart Cavlan stretched that lead to four points with another fine score but the Rebel County were stirred into action and five points in the space of seven minutes edged them into the lead.

Peter Canavan levelled matters but in the 18th minute of the second half full-foward Michael O'Croinin restored Cork's lead.

However, the visitors failed to score for the next 14 minutes while Tyrone registered one goal and six points to take command.

The goal came from Sean Cavanagh while Peter Canavan hit three of the points.

This gave Tyrone a 1-17 to 0-12 lead and, although Cork got two late points, they were no more than consolation scores.

It meant Cork missed out on a place in the semi-finals on points difference having finished level on eights points with All-Ireland finalists Armagh and Kerry.

It was Armagh, despite losing to Kerry, who went through with Division 1A leaders Tyrone.

Tyrone will play Fermanagh with Armagh taking on unbeaten Division 1B table-toppers Laois.

Cavan, however, would have been very disappointed at their failure to put away Sligo at Breffni Park.

Victory, or even a share of the spoils, would have seen them go through instead of the Ernermen,

However, they lost 1-16 to 1-12 as FErmanagh grabbed the glory.
