Sports pressed for stadium choice
Plans are for football, GAA and rugby to be played at the proposed stadium
All three sports must sign up to the new stadium project
Sports governing bodies in Northern Ireland have been urged to make a decision about the multi-sport stadium proposed for the Maze near Lisburn.

The plan is for a 42,000-seater facility, costing 85million, which would be used for big football, rugby and GAA matches.

All three must give their backing for the project to go ahead.

Local sports minister David Hanson said the Government needed a decision from the sporting authorities soon.

"Without their commitment, a new stadium cannot go ahead and I want to emphasise that there is no plan B," said Hanson at Monday's reception for the Northern Ireland football team.

It is understood the GAA is in favour of the project but football and rugby are still considering the implications for them.

A government source said if the facility was built, it would be suitable for major events like the Uefa Cup football final or Irish rugby internationals.
