Windsor fails Uefa test
Windsor Park
Windsor Park is in need of a cash injection
Windsor Park's future as an international soccer venue is under threat after a warning from Uefa about sub-standard facilities.

Irish Football Association general secretary David Bowen has informed the Government, through the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure, that immediate action needs to be taken.

If facilites are not upgraded, games could be taken out of Northern Ireland.

"I've informed the Government that our international representation could be in jeopardy," said Bowen.

"At the last match against Armenia, the doping control room and toilet facilities for players providing urine tests were unsatisfactory.

"There is a big danger that if Windsor is not improved, then we could be looking for another venue which would mean taking fixtures away from the province," he said.

Linfield, who own the stadium, have a long-term agreement with the IFA to stage home fixtures and have submitted major plans and funding proposals, not only to meet stadium costs but subsequent upkeeps.

Some money could be forthcoming from the 8m allocated by the Government to local football but which has not yet been distributed.
